1st Year Apprentice Daniel Bunce - Quote 2005
I started my apprenticeship in November 2004 after completing a pre-apprenticeship. The experience I have gained in my short time as an apprentice with Macmahon has been excellent. I have spent time repairing light vehicles, rebuilding engines and repairing trucks and earthmoving equipment. This experience has really helped put into practice what I have been learning at the Caterpillar Institute. By getting the training in the specialised sections like engines, final drives, and transmissions I feel Macmahon gives me excellent training for the future. And my future opportunities for travel to sites all round Australia is something that I am really looking forward to.
2nd year Apprentice Adam Stewart - Quote 2005
I started my apprenticeship in 2003 after completing a pre-apprenticeship the previous year. This helped me with the first year of my apprenticeship. I am currently working field service which means I am travelling through out Macmahon sites in Western Australia which is an excellent experience in learning how to diagnose and repair a wide range of equipment. I have found my Macmahon apprenticeship excellent so far as I have travelled and worked in main workshops doing major rebuilds and I am really looking forward to the next two years and finishing my apprenticeship with Macmahon.
Leon Birch completed his apprenticeship January 2005
I started my apprenticeship straight out of Year 12 (Busselton Senior High School) at the age of 17. The best part of working for Macmahon, is the travel to different sites and the experience that this gives you working on such a wide variety of machines from underground boggers to large dump trucks. This gives you a board knowledge base across the earthmoving and mining repair fields. It also helps that you get to know, meet and work with some great people along the way. Also, you get exposed to working on so many different sites you get experience in everything from underground and open-cut to civil construction.
Nick Beck completed apprenticeship January 2005. During his apprenticeship Nick was awarded the outstanding student in Automotive Electrical in 2004
I started my apprenticeship in January 2001 and completed my four year apprenticeship in the Automotive Electrical trade. I have learnt how to find, diagnose and repair electrical faults on many light vehicles, trucks, earthmoving equipment, compressors and pumps. Because Macmahon has many contracts in Western Australia, you get to see parts of Western Australia that many others will not have seen. In my four years I worked on the edge of the Great Sandy Desert , Port Headland and Dampier to name a few. During my time I have met lots of people and made great friendships with people of different age groups and backgrounds. Coming straight out of high school four ago years seemed like a long time - but it flew passed.
