Education Requirement:
° Minimum education standards; 'C' level pass in Maths, English and Science - Year 10 at Stage 5. Completion of Year 11 is encouraged.
Desirable Criteria:
° Pre-apprenticeship
° Structured Workplace Learning (automotive)
° Licence
Assessment will consist of:
° Aptitude testing, for example mechanical comprehension and problem solving
° Interview
° Hand skill assessment
° Medical assessment including a drug and alcohol test
CONGRATULATIONS! You re a Macmahon Apprentice!
Commencing in early January, your first two weeks will include:
° Two week in depth safety training including first aid, fire and general safety training
° Inductions
° Uniform issue
° Apprenticeship format information
° Pay system
° Basic workshop training and familiarisation
Parents are invited to attend an orientation session to view the workshop, meet some of our staff and ask questions. Apprentice development is continuously monitored. In the first year, parents will receive two progress reports. Parents are encouraged to discuss any concerns with staff. Likewise, parents are notified should an issue arise in the workplace.
TRAINING
Off the job - Macmahon apprentices are trained to a high standard with off-the-job training provided by the Caterpillar Institute (Western Australia) or the most appropriate TAFE College.
On-the-job training is initially provided in our workshops and further experience is gained from rotation through various project sites around Australia. Click here for site map.
The scope of work covered by rotating through the main workshop/s and sites includes carrying out component rebuilds, repairing light vehicles through to heavy earthmoving/mining equipment.
Training locations (by Year of apprenticeship):
1st Year state based main workshop/s (two in Perth WA, one in Nebo, QLD)
2nd and early 3rd Years any of the Macmahon sites throughout Australia (civil construction, surface and underground mining sites), three to six month rotation per site
Later 3rd and 4th Years state based main workshop/s and any of the Macmahon sites throughout Australia
Exposure to all facets of Macmahon business enhances not only the depth but also the breadth of knowledge gained by our apprentices.

Important:
Macmahon enforces a drug and alcohol free workplace. All employees must pass drug and alcohol screening prior to commencement.
All employees will continue to be tested, throughout their Macmahon career. Failing a drug and/or alcohol test will result in a warning (counselling), with a further breach giving grounds for dismissal.
